Clifford Pier Resurrected!


Clifford Pier is located in the Downtown Core of the Central Region. It was named after Sir Hugh Charles Clifford, Governor of the Straits Settlements, was officially opened on 3 June 1933. On Dec 12, 2008 - the well known old landmark was resurrected after it was closed two years ago for restoration. Clifford Pier was used as a terminal for ferries leaving for the Southern islands. It was known for its grand arches and referred to as by the locals ang theng beh thow or red lamp pier - due to its red lamps that were used to guide ships and boats to it. Many may even have step foot to the the island in the early days
