Singapore grows.
This is a very interesting old photo of Clifford Pier. The only recognizable structure in the old photo is Clifford Pier. Comparing this old photo with the Google map, you will notice that the whole Marina South Bay was reclaimed from the sea. What is more interesting is the original shore line was at Telok Ayer Street more than a hundred years ago. That means the whole stretch of Shenton Way including the site of Lau Pa Sat is sitting on reclaimed land. It is amazing how Singapore grows (literally) over the years. This growth in land of course comes with a price. As the land grows, the sea passage narrows. So there is a balance to strike as the sea passage, just as land, is also the bloodline of Singapore.
